Purpose and Aims
Pontikis + Associates is an architectural and interior
design consultancy firm based in Southern California. The firm is a member of
the European Group CY-ARC (Cyprus
Architectural Center) which started its operations in Cyprus in 1996. The main
aim of our firm is to create livable and sustainable building and community
environments in the United States and around the world.
Kyriakos Pontikis is the
principal and managing director of the firm. He is a project consultant, author,
and educator with over twenty years of professional experience in Europe and the
United States. He has in-depth expertise in
building
design and construction,
interior architecture,
building sustainability, art of making, and participatory processes in design
and construction.
His
work focuses on the integration of architecture with interior spaces and his
primary concern is how livable and sustainable buildings and towns are made. In
his work he tries to create life and true
functionality to building environments by
employing fundamental principles of the “art of building”. His work, which grew
out of his association with Christopher Alexander and his associates in
Berkeley, focuses in the integration of architecture with structures and
construction, in design build processes, and in the use of materiality,
detailing, ornament, and color in buildings. The main aim of his work is to
create contemporary living structures that are responsive to human needs and
cultural specificity.
